Richard Scott

After graduating from the Tonmeister course at Surrey University, Richard went to work full-time at the famous Strawberry Studios in Stockport, which at that time was one of only a few fully professional studios outside London. Whilst there, Richard gained valuable experience working on all genres of music from some of the iconic artists using the studio at the time. From rock and pop and the developing Factory Records era to more classical and commercial sessions for Granada TV and the BBC, nearly everything musical in the Manchester area passed through Strawberry Studios.

When the Studios came to a natural close in the nineties, Richard moved onto various different fields, including Radio Production, Television, and a period of teaching at Salford University, where an almost chance meeting with Nicholas Childs, who was teaching Euphonium, lead to his involvement with Doyen Recordings, which has continued to this day.

As the involvement with and commitment to Doyen Recordings grew, Richard decided to concentrate on a career as a freelance Engineer, Producer and Editor, working mainly on Brass, Choral, and Orchestral music.  Richard has worked with Cathedral Choirs, such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Windsor Chapel, Bristol, Exeter and Blackburn, and with Orchestras including the RPO, BBC Philharmonic, and the Halle. Richard also has a strong connection to all the composers associated with the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester University, via the Northwest Composers Association, for whom he has made many recordings. And of course, Richard has recorded many of the finest Brass Bands in the country, including Black Dyke, Cory and Grimethorpe.

As Doyen became part of World of Sound, Richard has gladly continued his work as part of the team, still committed to producing the finest possible recordings.
